Heekin Animal Hospital

Heekin Animal Hospital opened in 2004 in a leased space with three exam rooms and a surgery room surrounding a common treatment area. A loyal clientele that followed Dr Heekin across the river helped support the fledgling practice as word spread among local pet owners. Being a practice owner allowed Dr Heekin to explore and expand her long-term interest in veterinary dentistry, and she invested heavily in dental education and equipment.

In 2022 Dr Heekin purchased land and began the process of designing and building the new clinic. Her goal was to create a comfortable space for both people and pets, filled with natural light and great ventilation, along with sound and noise control. In late spring 2025, the new 6200 square foot animal hospital will open to meet the growing needs of the Greater Cincinnati community. The new facility houses five exam rooms, a consultation/euthanasia room, surgery room, and dedicated dental suite.  The large dog kennels have heated floors, individual drains, and windows. Small dogs are housed in an adjacent area. In the new hospital, cats are housed in their own ward far away from the dogs. The outpatient area has a separate treatment room away from the surgical area.

Services

Heekin Animal Hospital is a small animal general practice that treats a wide range of medical conditions. We utilize a large reference laboratory, but also have laboratory equipment on site for urgent needs.

The hospital is equipped to provide a wide range of soft tissue surgical procedures. We focus on both anesthetic safety and pain control. To encourage proactive dental care, HAH focuses and early and regular professional exams, radiographs, and cleanings. We perform dental examinations prior to juvenile spays and neuters so that problems can be corrected at the time of the procedure.

The practice believes a yearly wellness exam is crucial to preventive health care. Early diagnosis of health issues can lead to a longer and healthier life, so a thorough physical examination, appropriate vaccination, blood work, and internal parasite checks are part of most well-pet visits.

Dr. Jodi Heekin

Dr. Jodi Brown Heekin is the owner of Heekin Animal Hospital. A life-long Kentuckian, she completed an undergraduate degree at Miami University, and was accepted into the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1987.

After graduation, she took a position at Tennessee Avenue Animal Hospital in Cincinnati. While at TAAH, she expanded her interest in internal medicine, and is knowledgeable in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. She is also an experienced surgeon and is qualified to perform many types of surgical procedures.

Founding Heekin Animal Hospital in 2004 allowed her to bring together her education, experience, philosophy, and vision to cultivate an environment that provides a high quality and individualized veterinary experience for both pet owner and pet. Practice ownership has also given her the ability to rekindle a long-term interest in veterinary dentistry. She is committed to a lifetime learning process and regularly participates in continuing education both locally and nationally. Membership in the on-line Veterinary Information Network provides instant access to the latest treatment options.

While she is driven by a keen interest in the technical aspects of physiology and medicine, what she finds most rewarding is the time that she spends with individual pet owners and their pets. She is grateful for and honored by the many enduring client relationships that have developed over the last 28 years.

Life outside the hospital includes spending time with her husband and two children. The family has two dogs, Corey and Rex, and two cats, Annie and Reggie. Dr. Heekin enjoys music by attending local arts events. She also participates in her church's choral and handbell choirs.  She also loves gardening and spending time with her friends.
